　　句一：There will be television chat shows hosted by robots,and cars with pollution monitors that will disable them when they offend.

　　television chat shows hosted by robots 由机器人主持的电视谈话节目,重点词hosted 主持；cars with pollution monitors 装有污染监控器的汽车；disable them 使汽车失灵(停止运行)，them和they指代汽车；offend 多义词(汽车)污染超标,违规。将出现由机器人主持的电视谈话节目以及装有污染监控器的汽车,一旦这些汽车排污超标(违规),监控器就会使其停驶.这个句子不难，最基础的过去分词作定语和介词短语做定语要掌握。

　　句二：The phrase "substance abuse" is often used instead of "drug abuse" to make clear that substances such as alcohol and tobacco can be just as harmfully misused as heroin and cocaine.

　　句子的主干是句子的前半部分The phrase "substance abuse" is often used...to make clear...,to make clear that...是动词不定式作状语,表示目的.that后面接的是宾语从句作动词make clear的宾语.注意make+sth.+adj.：make sth.clear,这里因为sth.是一个that引导的从句,所以放在了形容词clear的后面.翻译：“药品滥用”这个词经常被用来代替“毒品滥用”,其目的是为了表明酒精和烟草这样的物质是可能像海洛因和可卡因那样被误用的.这句话中需要注意定语后置的情况，在阅读句子中经常出现，如USA brought to a standstill its pattern of migration since World War 2中pattern of migration的后置，正常顺序是USA brought its pattern of migration since World War II to a standstill.短语bring sth. to a standstill使什么停止,这里，由于bring后面宾语过长，可能导致费解，因此采用了宾语后置形式。再比如2005年英语二的阅读中句子：supermarkets sell a better for you range of ready-meals.sell sth. for sb.或者sell sb. Sth.该句选用的个短语，宾语是a better range of ready-meals，由于range of ready-meals稍长进行了后置。

　　句三：Adding to a woman's increased dose of stress chemicals,are her increased "opportunities"for stress.

　　这是个倒装句,原句序是Her increased "opportunities" for stress are adding to a woman's increased dose of stress chemicals.主语是Her increased "opportunities" for stress，谓语是are adding to，宾语是a woman's increased dose of stress chemicals.翻译过来就是：女性因压力产生的化学物质增多,令这一问题更加严重的是：她们承受压力的“机会”越来越多。
