　　While even the modestly educated sought an elevated tone when they put pen to paper before the 1960s, even the most well regarded writing since then has sought to capture spoken English on the page.我们先要找出主句:even the most well regarded writing since then has sought to capture spoken English on the page.主句主语:(even修饰作用) the most well regarded writing,主句谓语:since then has sought to capture spoken English on the page.(since then 时间状语) 谓语动词是 has sought；前面有while引导的是状语从句,从句的主语是 (even 修饰作用) the modestly educated,从句的谓语是 sought,从句的宾语是 an elevated tone.之后when又引导了从句的状语从句,这个状语从句的主语是 they,谓语是put pen to paper before the 1960s,所以这是状语从句里面套着另一个状语从句.整句翻译:60年代之前,只要受过一些教育的人,写东西时都会追求高雅的格调；但此后,即使是最受推崇的文章也要弄些口语进去.看似很繁杂，实则是糖衣炮弹，需要我们一层层剥开即可。

　　有同学反映不太明白主语从句，先来看个简单的例子：What the book reveals is interesting.其实很简单，就是在句中作主语，位置与陈述句中主语位置相同，也就是说主语不是简单的一个词了而是一个句子。引导词：1）连词：that(已经确定的事情)、whether(未确定的事情)That he will come is certain. Whether he will come is not certain.2)连接代词：what, whatever, who, whoever, whom, whomever, whose, whosever, which, whichever. 比如句子Whoever comes is welcome.不管谁来都受到欢迎。What he said is true.他说的都是真的。Whose ticket this is has not been found out yet.至今还不知道这是谁的票。3)连接副词：when, where, how, why, whenever, wherever, however。比如：Why we need to control the environmental crisis is something I will explain.我将要解释一下我们为什么需要控制环境危机。

　　每一个考研英语长难句，我们要像剥洋葱一样，把其中的结构切割好，之后要看其中涉及到的熟词僻意，我们一定要重视考研英语语境中猜词能力的培养。到了后期，长难句的复习不是在切分结构，而是已经内化成为一种能力，重点转向对于句子的理解深度上，进而我们就会把更多时间转向揣摩作者或者出题人的思路上。希望大家都能用尽自己的洪荒之力来对待考研。
