2. not so much...as...表示“与其说......不如说......”

分析：迅速注意到破折号所作的分割结构为对上文 the mythical good life的解释说明，将其去掉，连接后得到主干downshifting in the mid-’ 90s is not so much a search for the mythical good life as a personal recognition of your limitations，使用了not so much...as...句型，表达特定意义“与其说......不如说......”。

3. more/less也可修饰动词，表示“更......，不......”

分析：从and切入本句，得到并列的系表结构，looks...like，...and“更(像)”。
