Poor diets are among the top causes of ill healthglobally, accounting for nearly one in five deaths, according to a study published last Thursday thatcalled on governments and businesses to do more toimprove eating habits.

Eating unhealthy food, or not having enough food -- including children unable to breastfeed -- contributeto widespread malnutrition, said researchersbehind the latest Global Nutrition Report.

The report is an independently produced annual analysis of the state of the world's nutrition.

"Diets are one of the top risk factors of morbidity and mortality in the world -- more than airpollution, more than smoking," said Jessica Fanzo, a professor at Johns Hopkins University anda lead author.
报告的主要作者、美国约翰斯·霍普金斯大学的教授杰茜卡·范佐称：“饮食习惯是在全世界导致人们发病和死亡的风险因素之一，风险大过空气污染和吸烟。”
"What we're eating is killing us. So something needs to get us back on track with our foodsystem," she said on the sidelines of a global food conference in Thailand's capital, Bangkok.
范佐在参加于泰国首都曼谷举行的食品国际大会期间表示：“我们吃的东西正在杀死我们。所以我们需要采取行动，让食品系统回到正轨。”
She said a lack of knowledge and affordability of nutritious food, as well as ineffective supplychains, are among the factors that contribute to poor diets.

The researchers analysed 194 countries and found that malnutrition could cost the world $3.5 trillion per year, including overweight and obesity which could cost $500 billion annually.

Fanzo noted that nutrition is crucial to building up immunity against disease, as well asmental cognition.

"You have to care about what people are eating if you want to build the intellect of yourcountry," she said.
她说：“如果你的国家想要人民整体的思维能力水平，就必须关注人们在吃些什么。”
