2020考研英语语法复习:破折号六点说明
一、解释说明
例句：Donovan believed in using whatever tools came to hand in the "great game" of espionage --spying as a profession.
译文：Donovan认为一切手段都可以应用于"espionage"这一伟大事业--职业间谍。
解析：很多人不认识"espionage"这个单词的意思，经过破折号引出的解释说明部分，不难理解它的意思是"间谍"。
例句：How lucky the girls nowadays are!--they can go anywhere,say anything.
译文：今天的女孩子多幸福啊!她们哪儿都能去，什么话都能说。
二、概括总结
例句：New houses，larger schools，more sheep，more pigs and chickens，more horse and d&111nkeys--everywhere we saw signs of the commune's prosperity.
译文：新房子，扩建的学校，更多的猪、羊、鸡、马和驴，到处可以看到公社的繁荣景象。
例句：He is modest，considerate，warm-hearted--he is a good man.
译文：他谦逊、体谅他人、热心--总之是个不错的人。
三、引出插入语
例句：I believed she was wise--well，she was I suppose--in a way.
译文：我相信她有几分聪明--噢，我料想她如此。
解析："well，she was I suppose"是典型的插入语，去掉之后并不影响句子完整。
例句：She was seventeen then--a beautiful young creature.
译文：她那时17岁--是一个年轻漂亮的姑娘。
四、表转折或中断
例句：I assure you that--but you wouldn't understand.
译文：我向你保证--可你不会理解的。
解析：破折号在此表示转折。
例句：During my vacation--I must have been insane--I decided I would ski.
译文：假期中--我准是发疯了--我决定去滑雪。
解析："I must have been insane"是感叹，是与原句意思完全无关的插入成分，破这号在此起到中断作用。
五、代替括号
例句：Mary comes every week--on Tuesdays--to help with the laundry.
译文：玛利每周(周二)都来帮忙洗衣服。
例句：Two of the strongest animals in the jungle--the elephant and gorilla--are vegetarians.
译文：森林里的两种的动物(大象和大猩猩)都是素食动物。
例句：The materials used--copper，stainless steel，concrete and glass--give the buildings a striking beauty.
译文：这些使用的材料(铜、不锈钢、混凝土和玻璃等)使这些建筑更具非凡魅力。
六、表示省略
例句："But--"she stopped short.
译文："可是--"她突然停住了。
七、补充说明
例句：We'll be arriving on Monday morning--at least，I think so.
译文：我们将在星期一上午抵达--至少我是这样想的。
